“If you told me 20 years ago that I’d own an IT company and know all the things I do about servers, networks, and IT security I would tell you that you’re nuts!”

Tell us a little bit about what a typical day looks like for you.

I wake up early to get to the office between 6 and 7am. My mind is fresh and there are no distractions. I knock out some key tasks and I am prepped for my day. Our daily huddle kicks off the teams day at 8:30. After that you’ll find me consulting with existing clients, analyzing networks for infrastructure upgrades or security assessments, speaking, or coaching my team. In the evening I love to cook dinner for my 3 kiddos left at home, have a mindful yoga practice, and get to bed early. Yes, my business takes much of my life but I LOVE building InTech, coaching our team, and helping our clients florish.

How do you stay passionate in your career?

Holy cow! We are in TECH! It has to be the most exciting career IN THE WORLD! It is always changing, you can always add more value to your clients!

Did you have a traditional path into tech (i.e.: CS/IT degree transitioned into tech job)?

I have a degree in Psychology. I started InTech with a partner who was a systems engineer. I learned tech on the job. There is nothing like the necessity of on the job learning! If you told me 20 years ago that I’d own an IT company and know all the things I do about servers, networks, and IT security I would tell you that you’re nuts!

Never underestimate what you can understand, learn, and accomplish.

Are there any apps, software, or tools you cannot live without?

YES! My Samsung ultra book and my iPhone. With those two devices I am ON anywhere, anytime! Apps that support my business include slack and IT Glue. I love the Amazon app on my phone so I can order things for business and personal on the go. I use instagram for posting thoughts on Stoic philosophy, so although I could live without it, it provides me a sense of balance.

It’s common knowledge that women and femmes often face obstacles in the tech industry based on their gender. Have you ever had to deal with this type of experience and if so how did you handle it?

Not only am I a woman, but I also look young. Some CEO’s I’ve met with didn’t take me seriously at first. I am quick to establish my knowledge and outline our process to make their IT successful. Also, I wrote a book on cybersecurity called Cyber Warfare, which helps establish credibility before someone even talks to me.

What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the #womenintech community?

My favorite part of being a part of the women in tech community is helping other women be successful in this industry.

If applicable, how have you given back to the WIT community?

Mentoring and cheering women on!

What is a piece of advice you would give to others wanting to or currently pursuing a career in tech?

YOU CAN DO IT! If you love it, are passionate about it, and want this to be your life, its yours. Humans use computers and the human element of everything tech cannot be overlooked. Women have a naturally higher emotional intelligence. The industry needs YOU!

Tell us about a time you felt extremely accomplished in the past year.

Last year I published by second book, Cyber Warfare: Protecting Your Business From Total Annihilation. I woke up every day at 4am for 3 weeks, then worked through Memorial Day weekend – all 3 days writing 6-8 hours a day.

Since publishing the book I’ve had the opportunity to speak all over the east coast, from Havard Club in Boston to my alma mater IUP.

Last year, we worked hard at our company to determine what Principles we LIVE by at InTech (not just pretty words on paper). Our culture has become so strong. I am so proud of my team and it is a joy to work with them every day. <3
